The ancient Aztecs enjoyed pumpkin seeds as a quick but satiating snack and the meat was roasted/dried into strips to eat. There is evidence that native American tribes used the seeds for medicinal purposes and the sap of the fruit to treat burns.
Pumpkin seeds are a complete, plant-based protein containing all 9 of the essential amino acids which serve as the building blocks of protein and are vital for muscle regeneration and the development of lean body tissue. We make pumpkin seed flour through a cold milling process. The cold milling allows 100% of the nutrition goodness in the seeds to remain intact. Cassava is a starchy root vegetable (like potato/yams) indigenous to Brazil. It is cultivated in the tropical regions of South America and other tropical regions around the world. Sometimes called yuca or manioc – it is cooked, dried and milled into a fine flour that is nut flavored, gluten-free, grain-free, and paleo friendly. Cassava helps create the RockIt crunchy outer shell. We like it for its versatility and additionally recent research suggests that cassava is a gut friendly prebiotic that helps aid digestion. All good stuff!
Wild potato species can be found throughout the Americas, from the United States to southern Chile. They were domesticated approximately 7,000–10,000 years ago In the Andes region of South America, where they are indigenous. Potato starch – research suggests - has resistant starch properties that are a gut friendly prebiotic helping satiety and digestive health. We use a small amount to achieve our perfect crunchy textured outer shell.
Native to the Philippines and originally a biproduct of coconut milk it is now valued and categorized as a grain free superfood. Coconut flour is gluten free, low carb and fiber rich with a semi sweet flavor. It has MCTs, it may promote stable blood sugar, and heart health and research suggest that coconut flour is a gut friendly prebiotic resistant starch that aids in digestion. We like It for all those reasons but most important it adds a nutrition bonus to RockIt Snacks crunchy outer shell.
Chicory is a somewhat woody herbaceous plant of the dandelion family. Many varieties are cultivated for salad leaves, or roots which are baked, ground, and used as a coffee substitute and as a source of dietary fiber or a sugarless sweetener. Chicory thrives as a wild plant on roadsides in its native Europe and is now common in North America, China, and Australia where it has become widely naturalized. Chicory root is a source of soluble fiber because it passes through the body undigested. So, foods containing chicory root fiber may contribute to satiety after meals. It is considered a prebiotic, promoting healthy bacteria growth in the gut. We like the satiety and added fiber it provides to RockIt Snacks as well as the naturally semi sweetness that contributes to RockIt’s over the top flavors.
Harvested in Michoacan, Mexico, our avocado oil is extracted directly from the pulp surrounding the avocado pit to ensure the preservation of all nutrients. Some of the many benefits of avocado oil are Omega 6 and 9, Vitamin D and E, natural antioxidants and cholesterol free due its plant origin. It is lightly applied onto our coated seeds to roast to the perfect crunch and enhances the Sea Salt, Nacho and Ranch topical seasonings.
Gum arabic is a fibrous ingredient made from the natural hardened sap of wild Acacia trees. The tree is native to Sudan but also grows in several regions’ in Africa (Kenya, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal). RockIt Snacks gum arabic is from the Vachellia (Acacia) tree. This species produces a dried gum from its trunk and branches. We like natural gum arabic for its binding/candy hardening ability that contributes to our unconventional crunch. It also is a top prebiotic food source that helps feed a healthy gut, aid in digestion, provides satiety and is considered an anti-inflammatory ingredient.

It is an ingredient in our Ranch seasoning. Citric acid is added in a small amount for the slight citrus tart flavor profile that would otherwise come from a dairy buttermilk ingredient. Citric acid enhances the citrus flavor in our Ranch and allows it to be a dairy free product. It is derived by way of natural fermentation from Non-GMO sugar cane - not corn or any grains.
DOES ROCKIT SNACKS HAVE LACTIC ACID?
It is an ingredient in both the Ranch and Nacho seasonings. Not different from Citric acid the Lactic acid is added in a small amount for the slightly pungent flavor profile that would otherwise come from a dairy cheese ingredient. Lactic acid enhances the cheese like dairy flavor in our Ranch and Nacho which in turn allows them to be a dairy free product. It is derived by way of natural fermentation from Non-GMO sugar cane - not corn or any grains.
